HEAD 31.-PUBLIC WORKS EXTRAORDINARY.
Notes on the works provided for in the Draft Estimates.
Sub-head 1. Additional Quarters, Ventris Road $10,000.—The Vote provides for payment
of Retention Money. The work will be completed in 1927. -

2. New Ilospital Block Victoria Gaol $37,000.-The existing Superintendent's Quarters, offices, old store, and hospital to be pulled down and a new building erected, containing store, Chief Warder's office, Mortuary, Armoury, Medical Officer's offices and Hospital Wards. Work is in progress and will be com- pleted in 1928.
3. Garage for motor vans and cars at
garage is to be completed in 1927. Money.
Central Police Station $1,000.--The Vote provides for payment of Retention
4. Wong Nei Chong Village Development (houses) $28,000.-Forty-eight houses are to be erected for old inhabitants of Wong Nei Chong Village, whose houses have been taken over by the Government in connection with
the Wong Nei Chong Development Scheme. To be completed in 1928.
5 Victoria Gaol, Reception Block $30,000.-One floor of the present reception block to be pulled down and a new reception block built adjoining the New Hospital Block mentioned in Sub-head 2, containing reception, registry, visitors and Solicitors' rooms, clothes store, baths, &c. To be completed in 1928.
6. Victoria Gaol Improvement of rentilation to "D" Hall $5,000.-This work provides for the putting in of a better type of window for the purpose of improving the ventilation to "D" Hall. To be completed in 1928.
7. Wong Nei Chong Village Development. Removing existing school and latrine and re-erecting on new site $16,000.-In the scheme of development for this village it is necessary to remove the existing school and latrine to a position at a higher level to conform with the layout plan. To be completed in 1928.
8. Roads $40,000.--To provide for areas in course of development. In view of the need for retrenchment the amount has been reduced by $20,000 below the sum provided for 1927.
9. Training Nullahs $10,000.-To provide for areas in course of develop- ment. In view of the need for retrenchment the amount has been reduced by $10,000 below the sun provided for 1927.
10. Sewage and Stormwater Drains $25,000.--To provide for areas in course of development. In view of the need for retrenchment the amount has been reduced by $25,000 below the sum provided for 1927.
11. Miscellaneous $15,000.-To provide for miscellaneous works. In view of the need for retrenchment the amount has been reduced by $15,000 below the sum provided for 1927.
